Korea-US Association, "Expecting Alliance Normalization with Korea-US Government SMA Negotiation Settlement"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Korea-America Association welcomed the conclusion of the 11th Special Measures Agreement (SMA) on defense cost-sharing on the 11th and expressed expectations for the complete normalization of the Korea-US alliance.
In a statement released that day, the association said, “We sincerely welcome the smooth conclusion of the 11th agreement, which has undergone long and painful negotiations between Korea and the US,” and added, “We hope that the conclusion of the negotiations will lead to the swift and complete normalization of the Korea-US alliance, strengthening its role as a key pillar for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and achieving continuous development as a global value alliance.”

Earlier, Korea and the US agreed on this year’s defense cost-sharing amount for the US Forces Korea at 1.1833 trillion won, a 13.9% increase from last year, and reached an agreement to raise the amount annually over the next four years in line with the defense budget increase rate.
