Additionally, the total quantity of 7 million doses of AstraZeneca to be introduced in the second quarter has been finalized.
Prime Minister Jeong presided over the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting for COVID-19 at the Government Seoul Office this morning and stated in his opening remarks, "I am reporting to the public that the quantity of AstraZeneca vaccines to be introduced in the second quarter has been confirmed," adding, "We have decided to receive about 7 million doses from the last week of May through June."
Regarding the decision to expand the vaccination range to include the elderly, he said, "Recently, data sufficiently proving the efficacy for the elderly was released in the UK, and based on this, several countries including Germany and Italy have already expanded the vaccination target to include the elderly," and added, "Our country also held a Vaccination Expert Committee meeting yesterday, and after in-depth discussions among experts, it was decided to vaccinate those aged 65 and over with the AstraZeneca vaccine."

Prime Minister Jeong urged, "Now we must accelerate the vaccination process on the ground," and requested, "Please promptly carry out follow-up measures such as confirming the target recipients and providing vaccination guidance so that the elderly, who are most vulnerable to COVID-19, can receive vaccinations quickly and safely."
