Haenam-eup, Haenam-gun, Development of Youth Street in the Original Downtown Area
Youth Center Opening in July, Youth Platforms Emerging Near Suseongcheon River
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] The old downtown area of Haenam-eup, Haenam-gun, Jeonnam, is being transformed into a vibrant youth street. The old downtown, formed along the Haenamcheon Stream in Haenam-eup, used to be the central commercial district of Haenam-eup, passing through the daily market, but has been accelerating in decline due to development in outlying areas and population decrease.
According to Haenam-gun on the 10th, youth-related infrastructure will be continuously established along the stream area, creating a youth cultural street where young people can stay and enjoy themselves.
First, a youth center is scheduled to open near the Haeri stream in July. The youth center will have a total area of 349㎡ and two floors above ground; the first floor will be an open space such as a cafe, and the second floor will consist of offices and lecture rooms.
The youth center will serve as a space where anyone can visit and freely communicate, providing youth job information and counseling, supporting youth startups and cultural activities. It will also be used as a space to share youth policies and operate various customized courses.
The county plans to hold a Youth Harmony Festival in September to commemorate Youth Day and raise awareness of youth issues. The festival will feature various cultural events such as flea markets and busking, which are popular among young people, adding vitality as a youth festival created together with nearby residents.
Earlier, at the end of March, the Youth Food Culture Creative Campus near the youth center will be completed. The Food Culture Creative Campus project provides shared kitchen and shared office spaces to young people, supporting the planning and startup of differentiated food content with a youthful sensibility.
The location was prepared by remodeling an old building along the stream, and in the same building, a Social Community Support Center for revitalizing social economy and village communities will also be established. Collaboration work to support youth employment and startups is expected to proceed smoothly.
Additionally, in the first half of this year, a youth complex cultural center and a small cinema will open, and the Haenam-eup daily market and the 5-day market area will be targeted for the Haenam-eup Urban Regeneration New Deal project to be promoted by 2024, which is expected to be a groundbreaking opportunity for revitalizing the old downtown.
