Gyeongnam Province Notifies Compensation Claim Procedures for Land Included in River Areas
If Address, Residence, or Other Notification Locations Are Unknown, Announcement at the End of March
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 10th that it plans to notify the owners and related parties of uncompensated land among the land nationalized as part of river areas of the compensation claim procedure for river-included land in writing by the end of March.
Gyeongnam Province had sent the first written notification of the compensation claim procedure in October last year following the extension of the statute of limitations for compensation claims due to the amendment of the "Special Measures Act on Compensation for River-Included Land" in July last year.
If the address or residence of the person to be notified of the compensation claim or other places to notify are unknown, a public notice will be made in major daily newspapers by the end of March.
The province compensated for land incorporated into national rivers following the enactment of the "Special Measures Act on Compensation for River-Included Land" in 2009.
The statute of limitations for compensation claims for land that has not been compensated was extended until December 31, 2023.

An official from the province said, "Cases where compensation applications are not made often involve unregistered land, resident registration numbers not recorded in the registry, overseas migration, or non-residence at the registered address, making it difficult to contact owners or their descendants," adding, "We ask for the active interest and cooperation of landowners and their descendants."
