Gwangju City to Reopen Citizen Fitness Center on the 8th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that it will reopen the Citizen Fitness Promotion Center, which had been partially suspended due to COVID-19, on the 8th by strictly adhering to quarantine guidelines and offering non-face-to-face online services.
The Citizen Fitness Promotion Center is a project initiated by Gwangju City since 2013 to improve citizens' fitness and health, and has been operating on the 5th floor of the College of Physical Education at Chosun University since December 2014.
In addition to the systematic sports rehabilitation programs for professional athletes that have been conducted through the Citizen Fitness Promotion Center, various programs aimed at improving citizens' fitness will be operated to expand participation in physical activities.
Customized exercise prescriptions are provided by assigning professional exercise prescribers and fitness measurement staff who measure basic fitness and suggest appropriate exercises. Fitness enhancement classes are also offered, allowing participants to choose exercise classes that suit their needs to strengthen lacking fitness.
The customized exercise prescriptions are conducted by visiting the center after making a reservation, and considering the COVID-19 situation, only one person per 30 minutes is allowed.
In particular, the program is conducted under strict quarantine guidelines, including disinfecting four times a day, installing facial recognition thermometers, and recording entry logs.
The fitness enhancement classes are conducted as non-face-to-face programs through online videos so that they can be easily used at home.
The detailed programs include a total of 11 types such as aerobic and anaerobic combined training, lower body strength exercises for fall prevention, mat exercises for back pain prevention, and sling exercises for core improvement.
The Citizen Fitness Promotion Center is equipped with about 64 types of exercise equipment currently in use, including back strength measuring devices, whole-body reaction measuring devices, aerobike measuring devices, and various muscle strength measuring devices for basic fitness measurement. For professional athletes' rehabilitation, there are wireless portable respiratory gas metabolic analysis systems, spinal deep muscle treatment and evaluation systems, 3D spinal stabilization systems, and sling rehabilitation treatment systems.
From 2015, when the center began operations, to 2019, the Citizen Fitness Promotion Center recorded 26,628 basic fitness measurements, 3,798 sports rehabilitation cases, and 2,199 fitness enhancement classes, achieving over 100% of the annual targets. However, in 2020, due to COVID-19, the actual performance was only 14% of the planned goals.
To use the Citizen Fitness Promotion Center, for customized exercise prescriptions, online applications must be submitted through the Citizen Fitness Promotion Center website, and for sports rehabilitation programs, inquiries must be made by phone before visiting for registration.
