Gwangju City to Begin Livestock Infectious Disease Vaccinations Starting on the 8th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 1st that it will conduct the first half of the year livestock infectious disease vaccination from the 8th to July 31st.
The vaccination targets are 338,000 animals including cattle, pigs, dogs, and chickens from livestock farms within the jurisdiction.
In particular, diseases transmitted by mosquitoes such as Japanese encephalitis, which can also infect humans, and Akabane disease are planned to be vaccinated before mid-May, prior to the appearance of mosquitoes.
Livestock quarantine officers and public veterinarians will visit livestock farms in each autonomous district to supply preventive medicines, and simultaneously carry out surveillance activities for disaster-type livestock infectious diseases such as African swine fever, avian influenza, and foot-and-mouth disease.
Also, due to the increase in the companion dog population, rabies, which requires caution, is planned to have a mass vaccination in early May.
Vaccinations will be conducted at all animal hospitals within the jurisdiction that wish to participate in the project, regardless of the address of the dog owner, as in previous years.
In addition, livestock farms will be inspected for vaccination implementation and disinfection status, and violating farms will be subject to administrative measures such as fines according to the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act. Guidelines for reporting suspected infected livestock will also be promoted.
