Presidential Candidate Preference: Lee Jae-myung Maintains Lead at 23.6%... Lee Nak-yeon and Yoon Seok-youl at 15.5%

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] A poll released on the 1st showed that Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, maintained his position as the top preferred candidate for the next presidential election.
According to a survey conducted by Realmeter on behalf of OhmyNews from the 22nd to the 26th of last month targeting 2,536 people nationwide, Governor Lee recorded 23.6%. This is an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month and the highest since July last year.
Preference for Governor Lee was highest in Incheon and Gyeonggi at 31.3%, followed by Jeju (30.1%), Gwangju and Jeolla (24.6%), Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong (21.6%), Seoul (20.3%), Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (18.3%), and Daegu and Gyeongbuk (16.8%).
By age group, 40s showed the highest preference for Governor Lee at 36.2%, while those aged 70 and above showed the lowest at 14.1%. Other age groups were 50s (25.9%), 30s (24.8%), 60s (18.4%), and 18-29 (18.1%).
Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, showed 15.5%, up 1.9 percentage points from the previous month.
Yoon Seok-youl, Prosecutor General, dropped 2.9 percentage points to 15.5%, tying with Lee Nak-yeon for second place.
In this poll, Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, recorded 7.0%, Hong Joon-pyo, independent lawmaker, 6.6%, Oh Se-hoon, former Mayor of Seoul, 3.2%, and Choo Mi-ae, former Minister of Justice, 3.0%.
Following them were Na Kyung-won, former People Power Party lawmaker, 2.8%; Yoo Seung-min, former People Power Party lawmaker, 2.4%; Chung Sye-kyun, Prime Minister, 2.4%; Lim Jong-seok, former Presidential Chief of Staff, 2.3%; Shim Sang-jung, former leader of the Justice Party, 2.0%; Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Province, 1.6%; and Kim Du-kwan, Democratic Party lawmaker, 0.9%.
This survey applied weighting by gender, age group, and region based on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s resident registration population statistics as of the end of October last year, and was conducted using a random phone call method with a dual-frame sampling of 80% wireless and 20% landline. The margin of error is ±1.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
