Gwangju City Launches Full-Scale Project for Korea Swimming Promotion Center Construction
Basic Plan Service Launch... 37 Billion Won Invested, Completion in 2024
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it will actively promote the construction project of the Korea Swimming Promotion Center as one of the legacy projects of the 2019 Gwangju World Swimming Championships.
Gwangju City signed a basic plan service contract on the 24th and began full-scale service after the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's local finance central investment review necessary for the construction of the Swimming Promotion Center was finally approved last November.
So far, Gwangju City completed administrative procedures such as selecting Nambu University as the final construction candidate site in December 2019 through a local district contest, managing shared property plans last year, obtaining approval from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Education, setting up surface rights, and signing construction agreements with Nambu University and Gwangsan District Office.
With these major administrative procedures completed, the basic plan and detailed design services are scheduled to be completed by the first half of next year, with completion planned for the second half of 2024.
The Korea Swimming Promotion Center will be built with a total project cost of 37 billion KRW (10.2 billion KRW from the national government, 23.8 billion KRW from the city, and 3 billion KRW from private investment), covering a total floor area of 8,755㎡, with three above-ground floors, including swimming pools, a sports memorial hall, and support facilities.
In particular, Gwangju City plans to develop and operate various programs such as advanced facilities and systematic education systems for nurturing swimming talents, as well as survival swimming techniques for the general public and students once the Swimming Promotion Center is completed.
