Jeonnam Province announced on the 26th that it held a 'New Strawberry Varieties Malaysia Export Loading Ceremony' at the Damyang Smart Berry Farm.
The strawberries exported this time are two varieties, 'Jukhyang' and 'Merry Queen,' totaling 600 kg worth approximately 12 million KRW.
Despite difficulties in exports due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the province has been pioneering markets to expand exports of Jeonnam agricultural products.
The event was attended by Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, Damyang County Mayor Choi Hyung-sik, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly members Park Jong-won and Kim Ki-sung, Park Seo-hong, head of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, Lee Jae-yeon, head of NH Nonghyup Damyang County Branch, Park Gwi-seok, head of Wolsan Nonghyup, Jung Young-jun, head of Jeonnam Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, Park Hong-jae, director of the Agricultural Technology Institute, and other related officials and strawberry farmers.
Jeonnam strawberries began their first exports to Southeast Asian markets such as Thailand and Vietnam in December last year.
Going forward, they will also be supplied to Malaysia, the largest premium market in Southeast Asia, expected to serve as a driving force for Jeonnam strawberries' entry into the Southeast Asian market.
Meanwhile, the province is promoting various policies to expand exports of agricultural, fishery, and livestock products, including entry into overseas shopping malls of Namdo Market, establishment of permanent overseas sales outlets, entry into the Amazon Jeollanam-do brand store, expansion of Namdo Mihyang export companies, and expansion of export specialized complexes.
Additionally, by fostering export councils linking producers, processing companies, and exporters, the province plans to diversify export countries to Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, while also nurturing specialized export companies capable of local marketing and premium market development, implementing strategies to revitalize exports.
