Pulmuone Food & Culture, a lifestyle service specialist company affiliated with Pulmuone, announced on the 25th that it signed a business agreement with Mums Retail at its headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul, to sell and rent food waste processors for rest areas.
The two companies pursued this agreement to reduce food waste at rest areas. Rest areas are representative sites where a large amount of food waste is generated, and the plan is to reduce food waste emissions nationwide by distributing eco-friendly microbial decomposition food waste processors.
Through this agreement, the two companies will ▲ promote business cooperation to expand eco-friendly business based on MUMS, an eco-friendly food waste processor certified by the Ministry of Environment and using microbial technology, with Mums Retail as the domestic sales corporation ▲ develop package products combining both companies’ products and services ▲ and pursue cooperative projects in other mutually possible areas.
Pulmuone Food & Culture will handle supply chain development for rest areas and product promotion for sales and rentals, while Mums Retail will be responsible for product supply and after-sales service.
The eco-friendly microbial decomposition food waste processor is a commercial-use product launched by Mums Retail after five years of research and development. By supplying harmless microbes (a blend of lactic acid bacteria, yeast, etc.) only once a month, food waste is completely decomposed, making it an eco-friendly product that generates no food waste.
Prior to this agreement, Pulmuone Food & Culture piloted the Mums Retail food waste processor at Osu Rest Area (Wanju/Suncheon direction) in August last year. Previously, food waste disposal costs were about 14.5 million KRW annually at 350 KRW per kilogram, but after introducing the food waste processor, only a monthly rental fee of 450,000 KRW was incurred, resulting in an annual cost reduction of about 9.1 million KRW (approximately 63%).
Based on this, additional installations were made this year at nine rest areas operated by Pulmuone Food & Culture.
Kim Kyungsoon, Head of the Concession Service Business Division at Pulmuone Food & Culture, said, "We expect that the synergy effect created by Pulmuone Food & Culture’s supply chain and sales know-how combined with Mums Retail’s technology will play a significant role in reducing food waste."
