Jinju Rodeo Street Transformed into a Premium Walking Destination
Jinju Rodeo Street Shopping District Selected for 1 Market 1 Specialty Development Project Competition
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 23rd that the Rodeo Street shopping district was selected in 2021 for the 1 Market 1 Specialization Promotion Project to revitalize traditional markets.
This project is a Gyeongnam Province public contest, and among the five markets selected within the province, the city secured 50 million KRW in provincial funds (total project cost 100 million KRW) for the Rodeo Street shopping district.
The city plans to create a pedestrian-friendly street environment design that offers enjoyable experiences for pedestrians, focusing on the main themes of ‘creating a pedestrian-friendly environment’ and ‘a specialized shopping district based on urban camping content.’ Although a car-free street is already in operation, the pedestrian-centered street environment and content are insufficient.
From July to August, to address difficulties visitors face due to the lack of shade facilities or spaces on the street, the city plans to install distinctive shade structures such as tarps.
By incorporating popular outdoor content into the commercial area, various experiential contents such as weekend family urban camping and wood carving classes will be developed and operated to attract diverse customers to Rodeo Street.

A city official stated, “This is not simply a facility maintenance project but a commercial district revitalization project. Through linkage with other projects such as the MY-MOO food zone, we expect to create a commercial district with attractions, food, and entertainment, which will serve as an opportunity to revitalize the depressed original downtown commercial area.”
