Jeonnam Province and Provincial Office of Education Join Hands for Cooperation on COVID-19 Response and Future Talent Development
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province and Jeonnam Office of Education jointly announced the ‘Cooperative Vision for Total Response to COVID-19 and Fostering Future Talent’ and promised active cooperation.
Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok and Jeonnam Superintendent of Education Jang Seok-woong pledged in a joint announcement on the 23rd to work together to create an educational environment where residents and students can feel safe from the COVID-19 crisis ahead of the new semester school attendance.
In particular, the province, cities and counties, and the Office of Education expressed their determination to actively support the K-quarantine system, which mobilizes all available resources from testing to tracking and treatment.
Governor Kim announced the ‘2021 Education Support Operation Direction,’ which will provide a total project cost of 425 billion KRW for 97 projects in four major areas under the vision of ‘Fostering Talent that Dreams Together and Grows Together.’
To foster ‘future talent ahead of the times,’ the province plans to provide up to 5 million KRW annually for up to 10 years as talent development funds concentrated on the ‘Eutteum Talent’ selected through the New Millennium Talent Development Project.
Also, to help balanced nutrition intake, it will be the first in the nation to provide milk meals to all elementary school students and will promote 34 projects including pilot operation of education participation allowances for out-of-school youth and free meal support for alternative education facilities.
Along with this, 2.1 billion KRW will be invested to strengthen career experience, providing systematic software education centered on ‘Software Future Enrichment’ to about 3,000 youths, and operating a ‘Visiting 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Classroom’ utilizing the research and development infrastructure of local universities.
To help youths take pride in their region and learn the spirit of unity, regional community-based education such as Mahan History and Culture Education and Yi Sun-sin Leadership Camp will also be expanded.
Superintendent Jang expressed his intention to promote sustainable Jeonnam-type future education to foster future talent embracing the region.
The Office of Education plans to build future-oriented edutech-based smart classrooms in every school and establish creative convergence centers by city and county to nurture top talents in various fields.
Also, to design life in the region and encourage youth to return to Jeonnam, about 220 aging school buildings will be developed into Green Smart Future Schools over the next five years.
In particular, by fostering future-type integrated operation schools to enhance educational capacity, and actively promoting the rural study-abroad program in cooperation with local governments, urban students will be able to nurture their dreams in Jeonnam’s clean natural environment.
They will also work together to recover the local economy by encouraging reasonable consumption to protect local floriculture farmers, fishermen, and small business owners.
Superintendent Jang emphasized, “We will actively cooperate with Jeonnam Province to create hope for Jeonnam’s future education so that children, the future of Jeonnam, can take pride in our region, nurture their dreams, and grow into future talents who contribute to regional and national development.”
Governor Kim stated, “Jeonnam education must remain a ladder of hope for our youth 10 years and 100 years from now,” and “The province, the Office of Education, and the local community will wholeheartedly support the diverse dreams of Jeonnam’s youth.”
