Mokpo Coast Guard Catches Cargo Ship Operating with 24 Passengers Over Capacity

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Im Jae-soo) announced on the 22nd that it has caught Cargo Ship A, a 3,500-ton vessel operating between Mokpo and Jeju, for carrying 24 passengers beyond the number listed on the passenger manifest.
The Mokpo Maritime Police responded to a complaint reporting that Cargo Ship A departed Jeju at 5 p.m. on the 20th and arrived in Mokpo at 11 p.m. the same day, carrying more passengers than allowed. Upon inspection, they confirmed that a total of 63 people were on board, exceeding the maximum allowed passenger limit of 39 by 24.
As part of the first planned investigation of the year by the Korea Coast Guard targeting maritime safety violators, Mokpo Maritime Police are focusing on cracking down on illegal ship modifications and overloading/overcrowding. They have formed special task forces dedicated to intensive inspections at major ports and harbors, conducting coordinated operations with patrol vessels and local police stations to carry out comprehensive maritime and land-based enforcement activities.
