Hong Kong Grants Emergency Use Approval for China's Sinovac Vaccine
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Hong Kong has approved the emergency use of China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine. This is the second approval following the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Fosun Pharma and Germany's BioNTech.
Sophia Chan, Hong Kong's Secretary for Food and Health, announced this in a statement, according to major foreign media reports on the 18th.
Secretary Chan explained, "Based on the recommendation of the Vaccine Advisory Committee, it was determined that approval of the Sinovac vaccine was necessary."
Earlier, on the 16th, Hong Kong's Vaccine Advisory Committee stated that the clinical trial results of the Sinovac vaccine met the minimum standards and judged that "the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks."
Hong Kong will soon receive its first batch of Sinovac vaccines. After completing quality inspections, vaccinations will begin immediately.
