Gimhae-si Strictly Responds to Habitual Tax-Delinquent Vehicles
Strengthening Collection Activities Including Mobile Teams for Seizing License Plates of Overdue Vehicles
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 17th that it will strictly respond to chronic and habitual vehicle tax delinquents with the goal of zero vehicle tax arrears.
The city will strengthen the activities of the mobile team for seizing license plates of delinquent vehicles and significantly enhance vehicle tax collection activities such as seizing insurance payments of foreign workers.
Currently, the vehicle tax arrears in Gimhae City amount to 9.5 billion KRW in automobile tax and 25.6 billion KRW in fines, accounting for 31% of local tax arrears and 70% of non-tax revenue arrears, respectively.
For efficient collection, the city established a Vehicle Tax Arrears Team in January 2019 to manage vehicle tax arrears comprehensively, and collected 16 billion KRW last year through sending delinquency notices, seizure, public auction, and license plate confiscation.

Kim Woo-gon, head of the Tax Payment Division, stated, “For vehicles used for livelihood, we try to withhold license plate confiscation through installment payment promises,” adding, “We will strictly respond to chronic and habitual delinquents who do not pay despite continuous encouragement, doing our best to realize fair taxation and secure stable finances.”
