53 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed at Ggitturami Factory in Asan, Chungnam
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A total of 53 people, including workers at the Gitturami Boiler manufacturing plant in Asan, Chungnam, have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Chungnam Province and Asan City on the 16th, the outbreak at this factory began with one worker (Cheonan case number 850) testing positive on the 13th, followed by two more on the 14th (Asan case numbers 289 and 290), and 50 more on the 15th. The infections spread sequentially among factory workers and their families.
It is reported that many of the confirmed cases include foreign workers.
On the previous day, due to more than 50 confirmed cases at the same factory, the province and city set up a COVID-19 screening clinic inside the factory and conducted a full-scale test on 655 employees. The results of the full-scale test are expected to be released on the morning of the 16th.
The factory is currently closed, and all workers except those confirmed positive have been quarantined at home or in dormitories.
The province and city plan to investigate whether workers complied properly with quarantine guidelines within the factory.

Oh Se-hyun, mayor of Asan City, stated, “Most of the confirmed cases reside in Cheonan, and it has been confirmed that many foreign workers are included. We will conduct epidemiological investigations on the movements and contacts of the confirmed cases and do our utmost to prevent further spread.”
