On the 14th, Gyeongju City announced that it will hold a forum titled "Public Institution Relocation Regional Development Strategy" on the 16th at Alcheon Hall in City Hall as part of securing new growth engines for regional development.
At the forum, Kim Sa-yeol, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, will visit Gyeongju in person to deliver a keynote speech explaining the importance of the regional balanced New Deal project.
Following Chairman Kim's keynote speech, Professor Kim Kyu-tae of the Department of Creative Convergence Engineering at Dongguk University will present on "Current Status of Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation and Strategies for Attracting Public Institutions," and Professor Joo Jae-hoon of the College of Business at Dongguk University will give a presentation titled "A Dionysian Approach to Balanced Development through Cultural Tourism."
The discussion will continue under the moderation of Professor Lee Sang-duk of the Department of Social Welfare at Seorabeol University. Panelists include Professor Kim Joo-il of Handong University, Professor Park Byung-chun of Keimyung University, Professor Kim Kyu-ho of Gyeongju University, former Chairman of the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency Lee Jong-in, and Na Joong-gyu from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Institute.
The relocation of public institutions has been discussed as the so-called "Innovation City Season 2" about ten years after the Roh Moo-hyun administration designated ten innovation cities in 11 metropolitan cities and provinces.
Currently, there are about 360 public institutions headquartered in the Seoul metropolitan area, and Gyeongju City estimates that about 100 to 150 of these will be subject to relocation.
Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju emphasized, "If public institutions suitable for the region are attracted, they will create synergy effects with existing public institutions and companies, enabling us to leap forward as a historical, cultural, and energy innovation city. Through this forum, we will build consensus among citizens."
