KT to Introduce Unmanned Convenience Stores Nationwide at Train Stations... Signs Business Agreement with KORAIL Distribution
[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] Starting as early as the first half of the year, unmanned smart convenience stores enabling cashless payments will be established at major railway stations nationwide.
KT and Korail Distribution announced on the 10th that they signed a business agreement at Korail Distribution's headquarters in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to digitally innovate commercial facilities within railway stations nationwide, including the introduction of unmanned convenience stores.
Based on this agreement, the two companies plan to integrate advanced ICT technologies into commercial facilities at railway stations to enable efficient store operations and develop innovative customer services.
To this end, they will proceed with ▲establishing ultra-high-speed communication service environments suitable for commercial facilities within railway stations ▲introducing smart convenience stores such as unmanned convenience stores at railway stations nationwide ▲collaborating on the development of digital innovation services optimized for commercial facilities based on AI, Big Data, and Cloud technologies.
KT will support the introduction of unmanned payment and remote management systems for commercial facilities at railway stations nationwide by providing intelligent CCTV, IoT platforms, and control services. A pilot smart convenience store will be established in the first half of the year, with sequential application to stores within railway stations nationwide starting in the second half.
KT will also promote the introduction of digital innovation services incorporating its AI, Big Data, and Cloud technologies. Targets include commercial facilities and advertising media such as the 'Storyway' convenience stores operated by Korail Distribution at train stations nationwide and metropolitan subway stations in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Lee Kwanghee, Head of the Multi-Business Division at Korail Distribution, said, “We have high expectations to collaborate with KT, the leading domestic telecommunications company, amid the rapidly changing distribution industry environment.
