Tinder Operator Match Group Acquires Hyperconnect
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Match Group, the operator of the famous American dating app 'Tinder,' has acquired a Korean startup for 1.9 trillion won.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 9th (local time) that Match Group has agreed to acquire Seoul-based social media company Hyperconnect for $1.73 billion.
WSJ stated that this deal is the largest acquisition in Match Group's history. Hyperconnect is the company that developed apps such as Azar and Hakuna Live.
WSJ expects that through the acquisition of Hyperconnect, Match Group will further expand its dating app portfolio and significantly increase its corporate value. Match Group is a leading American dating app service company operating apps such as Tinder, Hinge, and OKCupid.
WSJ reported that due to the COVID-19 pandemic reducing in-person meetings, the number of dating app users increased, raising the corporate value of these companies.
