[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is making every effort to establish a welfare safety net to discover and support welfare recipients who may be experiencing difficulties in blind spots of welfare.
The district utilizes the social connection called ‘Neighbor’ to identify crisis households in welfare blind spots. By ‘neighbors looking out for neighbors,’ it plans to create a Jungnang-gu full of affection where no resident is lonely or marginalized.
First, starting in March, the district will operate the ‘Our Neighborhood Care Team.’ This project involves local residents who are well acquainted with the community regularly visiting crisis households in welfare blind spots, checking on their well-being, and providing or connecting them to necessary social welfare services.
Through the operation of the ‘Our Neighborhood Care Team,’ the district aims to discover hidden crisis households and strengthen regular monitoring of vulnerable residents in welfare blind spots, thereby establishing a more thorough and continuous care system.
Additionally, from the end of this month, the district will promote the integrated operation of welfare communities with similar or overlapping functions. The purpose of this integration is to improve the difficulty in managing the overlapping functions and roles among various welfare communities operating in the region.
To this end, the existing Nanum Store and Neighbor Keeper Citizen Finder, as well as Honorary Social Welfare Officers, will be unified under the name ‘Honorary Social Welfare Officer’ to discover crisis households and serve as reporters.
Also, Nanum Neighbors and Neighbor Watchers will be integrated into ‘Neighbor Watchers,’ who will monitor and support residents in blind spots.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “If you encounter neighbors who are isolated or in difficult situations, please contact the local community center or district office immediately,” and added, “We will continue to spare no effort to create a warm welfare Jungnang without any blind spots.”
Meanwhile, last year, Jungnang-gu conducted various distinctive projects to prevent solitary deaths. They operated a call center to check on the well-being of about 600 households, including elderly living alone, and connected them to necessary welfare services. They also carried out a Yakult delivery service and side dish support project for isolated elderly households.
