Emart Reports Operating Profit of 237.2 Billion KRW Last Year, Up 57.4% Year-on-Year (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Emart announced on the 9th that its operating profit on a consolidated basis last year was 237.2 billion KRW, an increase of 57.4% compared to the previous year. Sales increased by 17.8% during the same period to 21.3949 trillion KRW, and net profit rose 62% to 362.6 billion KRW.
In particular, same-store sales turned to a 1.4% growth compared to the previous year. This was the result of focusing on attracting customers through store renewals, unlike competitors' store closure policies. Notably, Emart strengthened its food segment, its key strength, significantly, concentrating efforts on delivering value that cannot be experienced online.
Traders also contributed to improved performance by continuing high growth of 23.9% following 2019. Net profit improved due to gains from the sale of the Magok site.
