Starting this year, as the ‘Patrol On-site Inspection’ at industrial sites is being intensified, Park Doo-yong, the Chairman of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), and the patrol inspection team have begun safety inspections at sites in the Busan area.
The industrial site ‘Patrol On-site Inspection’ is a project where the agency conducts surprise patrols and focused inspections to prevent high-risk fatal accidents at industrial sites, specifically fall accidents in construction and entrapment accidents in manufacturing.
This year’s main inspection targets are construction sites with a project scale under 12 billion KRW and manufacturing businesses with fewer than 50 employees. The agency will conduct more than 70,000 surprise on-site inspections this year using dedicated patrol vehicles.
Sites with poor conditions or uncorrected risk factors will be linked to the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s supervision for strengthened enforcement.
Accordingly, on February 4th, the agency designated Safety Inspection Day as ‘Patrol On-site Inspection Day’ and conducted nationwide simultaneous inspections.
On this day, Chairman Park Doo-yong and the patrol team visited manufacturing plants and construction sites in Busan consecutively, conducting surprise inspections focused on preventing falls and entrapment accidents.
During the inspection of an automobile parts manufacturing plant, special attention was paid to the installation of safety devices such as presses and the power shut-off measures during maintenance and repairs.
At the construction site visited afterward, the team focused on inspecting fall prevention measures such as work platforms and the wearing of personal protective equipment like safety helmets.
Chairman Park Doo-yong stated, “To reduce fatalities from industrial accidents, it is important for employers to properly install safety devices and for workers to develop the habit of following basic safety rules, such as wearing protective gear.”
