Yeosu City Supports Socially Vulnerable Groups with 'Knee Joint Replacement Surgery Costs for the Elderly'
Up to 1.2 Million KRW Support for Out-of-Pocket Expenses Based on One Knee
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) and the Senior Medical Sharing Foundation announced on the 4th that they will promote a support project for elderly knee artificial joint surgery costs.
According to the city, the support targets are economically disadvantaged vulnerable social groups among patients who meet the recognition criteria for degenerative arthritis health insurance benefits 'artificial joint replacement surgery (knee joint)'.

The surgery cost is paid up to a maximum of 1.2 million KRW of the patient's own burden for one knee.
Applicants must be 60 years or older as of the application date and be recipients under the 「National Basic Livelihood Security Act」, low-income groups, or eligible under the 「Single-Parent Family Support Act」.
Applicants can apply at the Visiting Health Team of the Eastern Urban Health Center in Yeosu City, and after confirming eligibility, the foundation will pay the surgery costs to the medical institution.
However, surgery and examination costs incurred before the notification of selection as a beneficiary are not supported, so surgery must be performed according to the support result.
A city official said, “We will continue to promote the project to improve the quality of life of elderly people suffering from knee arthritis in daily life but unable to undergo surgery due to economic reasons.”
