Gangdong-gu, Recruiting Participants for the First Half of 2021 Dog Behavior Specialist Training Course... Opportunity to Obtain 4 Types of Certificates and Connect with Employment and Startup Jobs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is recruiting participants for the first half of the '2021 Companion Dog Behavior Specialist Training Course' until the 17th, to provide future-oriented vocational education opportunities in line with the continuous growth trend of the companion animal-related industry market.
With 26.4% of all households in South Korea owning companion animals, the domestic companion animal market has expanded into an era of 15 million pets, leading to growth in related industry sectors.
Accordingly, Gangdong-gu is conducting the project by securing city funds through participation in the 2021 Seoul Metropolitan Government-Local District Job Creation Contest.
Since 2017, the training course has been operated for young people, with 107 graduates to date, 44 of whom have linked to employment or entrepreneurship.
The district expects that the Companion Dog Behavior Specialist Training Course will not only expand youth employment but also provide clues to solving social problems caused by the recent increase in companion animals, such as noise, biting, and waste management.
The main educational subjects include ▲Companion Dog Ethology ▲Training Science ▲Dog Walker & Pet Sitter ▲Nutrition ▲Special Lectures on the Companion Animal Industry, combining theory and practical training.
In particular, opportunities to develop practical skills, such as assistant instructor activities in the companion culture education program operated by the district, are also provided.
Additionally, during the course, participants can expect to obtain four professional certifications through exams: Companion Animal Behavior Specialist, Dog Walker, Companion Animal Funeral Director, and Pet Sitter.
The district plans to continuously support graduates' employment and entrepreneurship by providing personalized career counseling and practical experience opportunities.
Applications are accepted via email (joyyi@gd.go.kr) until February 17, with document screening and interviews conducted at the end of February. The course will run for about five months from March to July at the Gangdong Reborn Center (73, Yangjaedaero 81-gil, Gangdong-gu).
Youth aged 18 to 39 who wish to work or start a business in related fields such as animal trainers or animal protection activists are eligible to apply.
The education is free, and certificates of completion will be issued upon meeting certain criteria.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We hope many will participate in this course, which contributes to spreading awareness of animal life respect and proper companion animal care culture, while providing youth with opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship in related industries.”
