President Moon's Approval Rating Returns to 30% Range After 3 Weeks... Party Support 'People Power Party' Surpasses [Realmeter]

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating has fallen to the 30% range for the first time in three weeks. Party support has shifted, with the People Power Party overtaking the Democratic Party of Korea.
According to a poll conducted by Realmeter on behalf of YTN from the 1st to the 3rd, President Moon's approval rating for his administration's performance (positive evaluation) dropped by 3.5 percentage points from the previous week's weekly aggregate to 39.0%, the agency announced on the 4th. Negative evaluations rose by 3.8 percentage points to 56.6%, while those who were unsure or did not respond decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 4.4%. The gap between positive and negative evaluations stands at 17.6 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
During the survey period, political issues included inter-Korean nuclear power, judicial impeachment, and conflicts between the ruling party and government over disaster relief funds.
By region, the approval rating dropped most significantly in Seoul, where the April by-election will be held.
In Seoul, President Moon's approval rating fell by 13.2 percentage points from the previous week to 31.1%. In Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, and in Incheon and Gyeonggi, the approval ratings dropped by 5.9 and 2.8 percentage points respectively, recording 35.6% and 41.9%.
By age group, approval ratings notably declined among those in their 20s and 30s. The approval rating for those in their 30s fell by 8.6 percentage points to 36.5%, and for those in their 20s, it dropped by 7.7 percentage points to 32.5%. The only age group to see an increase was those in their 60s, rising by 4.0 percentage points to 37.3%.
This trend was also clearly reflected in party support, with the Democratic Party of Korea, which had held the top spot for two consecutive weeks, being overtaken by the People Power Party.
The Democratic Party's support decreased by 1.8 percentage points to 30.6%, while the People Power Party's support rose by 2.6 percentage points to 32.3%.
By region, support showed significant changes in Seoul and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam. The People Power Party's support in Seoul increased by 8.2 percentage points to 37.1%, and in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, it rose by 3.8 percentage points to 39.4%. Conversely, the Democratic Party's support in Seoul and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam fell by 8.7 and 9.2 percentage points respectively, recording 24.8% and 24.5%.
Meanwhile, the People's Party and the Open Democratic Party each declined by 2.3 and 0.7 percentage points to 6.3% and 6.8%, respectively, while the Justice Party rose by 0.3 percentage points to 4.5%.
