On the 31st, when the government announced the extension of the current social distancing measures of Level 2.5 in the metropolitan area and Level 2 in non-metropolitan areas for two more weeks until the Lunar New Year holiday, citizens were seen strolling through the streets of Myeongdong, Seoul. Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting that "the third wave, which had momentarily slowed down, is threatening our daily lives once again," and added, "the government intends to maintain the current social distancing levels and quarantine standards for two more weeks until the end of the Lunar New Year holiday."
