Gangbuk-gu, 4 Consecutive Years of A Grade in 2020 Regional Safety Diagnosis Evaluation
Ministry of the Interior and Safety Receives High Evaluation for Disaster Situation Communication and Disaster Relief Plan Establishment in 243 Local Governments
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) received an A grade for four consecutive years in the 2020 Natural Disaster Regional Safety Diagnosis Evaluation.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducts an annual regional safety diagnosis evaluation targeting 243 local governments. Using three field indicators?disaster risk factor analysis, disaster prevention measures promotion, and facility inspection and maintenance?the natural disaster response capability is rated on a scale from A to E. Among them, 34 local governments, representing the top 15%, received an A grade.
Gangbuk-gu was found to have received excellent evaluations evenly across all fields. In particular, it scored high in disaster situation dissemination, disaster relief plan establishment and disaster relief supplies management, disaster management resource management, installation of earthquake evacuation site signboards, and inspection of sewer facilities and disaster-vulnerable facilities in preparation for the rainy season.
Over the past year, the district established implementation plans for various natural disasters such as floods, cold waves, and heat waves, and thoroughly prepared for disaster situations through river maintenance and sewer facility management.
As a result of being selected for the A grade, the district can receive an additional 2% national treasury support when a special disaster area is declared in 2021.
