Yeosu City Detects Norovirus in Seafood from Nearby Waters... Beware of Food Poisoning
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 27th that it is urging people to pay close attention and caution to personal hygiene and food sanitation management following the recent detection of norovirus in seafood produced in nearby waters.
Norovirus food poisoning is an infectious disease that can be transmitted through consumption of contaminated food and water or through person-to-person contact with infected individuals, and it mainly occurs intensively during the winter months from November to February.
When infected with norovirus, symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea appear within 1 to 2 days, and other symptoms may include abdominal pain, chills, and fever.

A Yeosu City official stated, “To prevent norovirus food poisoning, it is essential to practice thorough personal hygiene, such as regular handwashing, and to eat seafood like oysters cooked whenever possible,” adding, “We strongly urge stricter hygiene management especially in social welfare facilities, multi-use facilities, group cafeterias, and restaurants where many people gather.”
