The Korea Student Aid Foundation announced on the 25th that Kim Yongho, CEO of Samkwang Mulsan, a kitchenware manufacturing company in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, donated 10 billion KRW as a scholarship fund.
CEO Kim lived a frugal life, commuting by public transportation from his home in Bulgwang-dong to Paju, and donated 10 billion KRW with the intention of giving everything back to society. He began donating in 2008 to support low-income families in Paju and joined the Honor Society, a high-donor group of the Community Chest of Korea, in 2013.
Kim Yongho said, "Money should not be trapped but flow like water to where it is needed. I hope the donation will serve as a catalyst and be used to nurture many global talents across the five oceans and six continents. I wish that benefits are evenly given to low-income students, single-parent families, and multicultural families so that students in difficult living conditions can study comfortably rather than just those who excel academically."
The foundation established the "Blue Lighthouse Gongsoo Kim Yongho Donation Scholarship," named after the donor's motto "Gongsurae Gongsugeo" and his name, to support the studies of low-income students annually. The foundation plans to develop and operate this scholarship fund as a flagship project of the "Blue Lighthouse" program, which supports tuition and living expenses, in accordance with the donor's wishes.
