Gurye-gun, Public Art Project Park Gallery Creation
Taking a Walk While Enjoying Artworks Improves Both Body and Mind
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 26th that it has completed the public art project "Our Neighborhood Art," which was promoted around Gurye Public Stadium and Gurye Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center since November last year.
Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeollanam-do, and Gurye-gun, and conducted by the Korean Fine Arts Association Gurye Branch, this project was promoted to create jobs for artists struggling due to COVID-19 and to provide opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture.
Under the theme "Capturing Gurye," 37 local painters were divided into two teams and created 26 artworks based on Gurye, along with paintings by 18 local students, which were exhibited around the public stadium to create a park gallery. Additionally, a heritage sculpture expressing cultural heritage as fruit, inspired by the mountain ranges of Jirisan and traditional roof tiles, was installed at the entrance of the Gurye Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center.
During the difficult times of flood damage and COVID-19, local painters planned and promoted this project hoping that residents exercising or walking at the public stadium could enjoy the artworks and have a moment of healing, and that visitors to the Gurye Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center and Jirisan History and Culture Center could take a photo with the heritage sculpture.
