"IPhone 12 Mini Rival Emerges" Sony Revives Xperia Compact Line
[Asia Economy Reporter Seol Gina Jo] Sony is reviving the Xperia Compact series, a smartphone that will rival the iPhone 12 mini.
IT specialist media PhoneArena reported this on the 24th (local time), citing IT tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, known for leaking mobile product information. Hemmerstoffer revealed smartphone renderings and stated, "We have confirmed that Sony is back with a new compact Android smartphone," adding, "There is no doubt that it was influenced by Apple's small smartphone, the iPhone 12 mini."
The Xperia Compact series, which will compete with the iPhone 12 mini, measures 140 x 68.9 x 8.9mm. It features a 5.5-inch notch display, slightly larger than the recently released 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini. The frame design applied to last year's Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 II has been similarly incorporated, and it is expected to include a fingerprint scanner, volume rocker, and dedicated shutter button. A headphone jack is also included. Additionally, it will be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 775G and support 5G.

PhoneArena reported that the product will be released as the 'Xperia 1 III Compact.' Since the main Xperia 1 III flagship is expected to launch in late February or March, the next-generation Xperia Compact is also anticipated to be unveiled globally around the same time.
