Incheon Namdong-gu Launches Environmental Policy Committee... Seeking Solutions for Environmental Issues like Incineration Plant
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Namdong-gu, Incheon, will operate an advisory body composed of experts from various fields for the first time among Incheon autonomous districts to seek reasonable solutions to environmental issues.
According to the district on the 21st, the Namdong-gu Environmental Policy Committee recently completed preparations such as member composition and plans to hold its first regular meeting combined with an appointment ceremony on the 26th.
The Environmental Policy Committee consists of a total of 16 members, including the ex officio Namdong-gu Environment and Transportation Bureau Chief, resident representatives, environmental organizations, environmental experts, environmental companies, and legal advisors, with 15 external members.
The Environmental Policy Committee is the first case among Incheon autonomous districts as a body to discuss environmental issues and collect expert opinions during the policy-making process.
It plays a role in deliberating and advising on major environmental conservation plans of Namdong-gu, sustainable development and eco-friendly urban creation, environmental improvement activities through cooperation between residents and businesses, climate change response, and matters recognized as necessary by the district mayor.
External members are recommended by the district mayor and heads of environment-related institutions (organizations) and are composed of experts from various fields to ensure professionalism and fairness.
At the first regular meeting, issues and countermeasures related to the installation of a southern region municipal solid waste incineration plant, environmental review and future measures related to the development of Namchon General Industrial Complex, and environmental issues related to project promotion by each department will be addressed.
These agenda items are the biggest environmental issues in Namdong-gu and have caused conflicts due to diverse opinions, requiring prompt resolution. On this day, the members will discuss, comprehensively review, and draw conclusions on the agenda.
