[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) has laid the foundation for the recreation of local cultural spaces.
Seo-gu announced on the 21st that on the 19th, it signed a business agreement with Sangmu Ieummae (representative Kim Sanghyun), a group of 37 artists, to promote the 'Public Art Project Our Neighborhood Art' initiative.
The 'Public Art Project Our Neighborhood Art' consists of diverse cultural contents such as paintings, sculptures, and media art in areas including the historic and cultural site of the former Sangmu Base and parts of the 5·18 History Road along the Seo-gu Ieumgil trail. Ultimately, the project aims to provide jobs for local artists and enhance residents' cultural enjoyment.
To this end, Seo-gu has secured a total budget of 400 million won.
In September of last year, the artist team for the project was recruited, with Sangmu Ieummae being finally selected. Subsequently, a residents' briefing session was held to gather community opinions.
Efforts are being made to ensure a solid project implementation with the goal of completion next month.
The district plans to hold the 'Public Art Festival 2021' exhibition on the 2nd floor exhibition hall of the Seo-gu Cultural Center until the 20th of next month, allowing citizens to appreciate various contents at a glance.
