At around 8:30 PM that day, near an elementary school in Beopwon-eup, Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, a woman in her 20s, Ms. A, was crushed by a city bus. Rescue workers who responded to the report arrived at the scene, but Ms. A was severely injured and had already died at the scene.
When Ms. A was getting off the bus, the end of her long padded jacket got caught in the rear door of the vehicle, and the bus driver, unaware of this, started to move. The police believe that Ms. A, who fell while her coat was caught, was dragged more than 10 meters by the bus and died after being run over by the rear wheel.
The rear door of the bus was equipped with a sensor to detect passengers disembarking, but it appears that the thin edge of the long padded jacket caught in the door prevented the sensor from stopping the accident.
