The Representative Inter-Korean Collaboration Project by Historians: 'Kaesong Manwoldae Excavation Project' Linked with General Gang Gam-chan... Exploring Traces of General Gang Gam-chan Hidden Throughout Gwanak-gu to Highlight the Need for Inter-Korean Cooperation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has produced a video titled "The Spirit of General Gang Gamchan at Kaesong Manwoldae and the Wish for Unification," which will be used as a non-face-to-face unification education program linked to General Gang Gamchan.
The video was created to strengthen the city brand by utilizing General Gang Gamchan, a historical and cultural resource of the district, while raising residents' awareness of the need for cooperation with North Korea for the study of Goryeo history, thereby increasing interest in unification.
An organization that conducted the excavation project at Kaesong Manwoldae, a representative cooperative project between South and North Korean historians, participated in the production to enhance the expertise of unification and history education. The story unfolds focusing on Gang Gamchan, who was born in Nakseongdae, Gwanak-gu, and actively worked in what is now North Korean territory for the Goryeo dynasty.
Through the video, viewers can see the brilliant culture of Goryeo preserved by Gang Gamchan and find traces of General Gang Gamchan hidden throughout Gwanak-gu, such as Nakseongdae and Anguksa. It also highlights the significant excavation achievements at Kaesong Manwoldae, which are meaningful for understanding Goryeo and revealing the origins of Korean culture.
The video has been uploaded to the district’s official YouTube channel, ‘Live Gwanak,’ allowing anyone to watch it anytime and anywhere without restrictions.
Considering the current difficulties of face-to-face education due to COVID-19, the video will be used for future staff and resident education and will also be screened at the Gang Gamchan Exhibition Hall.
Meanwhile, under the banner of ‘Gang Gamchan City Gwanak,’ the district is promoting various projects such as the Gang Gamchan Festival, Gang Gamchan Exhibition Hall, Gang Gamchan-daero, Nakseongdae (Gang Gamchan) Station, and the Gang Gamchan 10-ri Road Tour. It is also showing great interest in Goryeo history research by holding academic conferences to reexamine the achievements of General Gang Gamchan.
Mayor Park Junhee said, “We produced this video to reexamine General Gang Gamchan, a great military commander of Goryeo, and to confirm that the roots of our nation are one.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to develop projects that build a consensus on peace and unification among residents and lay the foundation for inter-Korean exchange and cooperation.”
