[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A man in his 40s who attacked five women over two hours due to misogyny was sentenced to five years in prison.
The Changwon District Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Kim Min-sang) announced on the 19th that A (48), who was prosecuted for hitting citizens with a car, threatening them with a weapon, and attempting to trespass, was sentenced to five years in prison.
His crimes stopped only after committing four offenses over two hours from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m.
At around 1 a.m. on October 18 last year, he drove a passenger car on a road in Gimhae, Gyeongnam, and hit two unknown women in their 20s passing by.
After getting out of the car, A approached the victims and tried to put them in the car saying, "Let's go to the hospital," but when they refused, he punched them, causing injuries including fractured ribs.
Soon after, A threatened a woman in her 20s with a weapon while sharing an elevator in an officetel in Gimhae.
He also followed a woman in her 20s returning home and attempted to trespass.
Then, near a middle school in Gimhae, while driving, he spotted a woman in her 60s and approached her saying, "Let me ask for directions," but when she avoided him, he threatened to kill her with a weapon, stabbed her right wrist, and fled.
A's lawyer requested treatment detention during the trial, claiming that A was in a state of mental incapacity due to mental illness and drug overdose at the time of the crime, but this was not accepted.
