New Selection of 'Areumdawoon Iyagi Halmeoni'
Application Submission Deadline Until the 22nd of Next Month
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Institute of Korean Studies announced on the 17th that they will newly select 500 "Beautiful Story Grandmothers" who convey traditional Korean stories to children. The recruitment target is Korean women aged 56 to 74. Anyone with basic storytelling skills and wit necessary for narration can apply. According to the announcement on the Story Grandmother Project website, applicants must complete the application form and submit it by mail or email by the 22nd of next month. Preliminary successful candidates who pass the document and interview screening must complete about 60 hours of training from May to September. After selection, they will undergo field training starting in October and then engage in activities at nearby daycare centers and kindergartens for five weeks. The allowance is 40,000 KRW per session. Since the project started in 2009, 5,664 people have participated up to last year, and 4,130 are still active.
