"Why Are You Lying Next to My Lover?"... Angry Police Officer Wields Weapon, Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] A 50-year-old police officer who became enraged after seeing a woman he was dating with the intention of marriage lying in bed with another man and attempted to kill the man was sentenced to prison.
On the 17th, the 11th Criminal Division of Daegu District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-yoon) announced that A (57), who was indicted on charges including attempted murder, was sentenced to 3 years in prison with a 4-year probation.
A is accused of stabbing C (47) twice in the chest with a weapon at B (51)'s house, whom he was dating, around 12:30 a.m. on December 19, 2019. During the incident, A also repeatedly hit B's face and head, causing bruising injuries.
A, who was a police officer, is known to have been dating B, a senior and junior from university, after losing his wife. On the day of the incident, A visited B's house after a company dinner and, upon seeing B and C lying together naked on the master bedroom bed asleep, became enraged and committed the crime.
After the crime, A drove 57 km on the road in front of B's house while intoxicated, stopped his car in front of a church in Daegu, fell asleep, and was then urgently arrested by the police.
A is also charged with refusing to comply three times when the police requested a breathalyzer test.
The court stated, "Considering the circumstances, methods, and content of each crime, the nature of the crime is very serious. C was stabbed in the chest, causing massive bleeding and risking life-threatening injury. The defendant impulsively committed the crime after seeing the woman he was dating with the intention of marriage lying in bed with another man. After this incident, he married B, and the victims have amicably settled and do not wish for punishment against the defendant. Taking all these into account, the sentence was determined."
