Hyundai Department Store, 3 Key Words for Lunar New Year Gifts: 'Premium · Home Stay · Health'
January 25 to February 11 Main Sale
Over 1,000 Items Including Hanwoo, Gulbi, and Fresh Produce
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Hyundai Department Store has presented ‘Premium·Home Stay·Health’ as the trend keywords for this year’s Lunar New Year gift sets. This reflects the changing holiday consumption trends due to social distancing.
Hyundai Department Store announced on the 17th that it will showcase products reflecting these trends during the main sales period for Lunar New Year gift sets, which runs from the 25th of this month to the 11th of next month. The main sales event for Lunar New Year gift sets will be held at food halls in 15 stores nationwide and online malls (The Hyundai.com, Hyundai H Mall, Hyundai Food Hall ToHome), offering about 1,000 items including Korean beef, dried yellow corvina, and fresh produce.
Due to the expected decrease in homecomings this Lunar New Year caused by social distancing, customers’ desire to express their feelings through gifts is anticipated to be stronger than last Chuseok. In fact, sales of gift sets during last year’s Chuseok, the first holiday after the outbreak of COVID-19, increased by 13.8% compared to the previous year’s Chuseok. Sales of premium items such as Korean beef and dried yellow corvina increased by more than 20%. Sales of meat sets including easy-to-cook Korean beef cuts for grilling and marinated meat, as well as wine gift sets, rose by 21.3% and 23.5%, respectively, while sales of health foods such as red ginseng, matsutake mushrooms, and deodeok root increased by 23.5%.
Reflecting these trends, Hyundai Department Store will expand the quantity of gift sets priced over 300,000 KRW, including Korean beef and dried yellow corvina, by 30% compared to last Lunar New Year. Representative gift sets include the ‘Hyundai Special Korean Beef Every Set (640,000 KRW)’, ‘Hyundai Special Korean Beef Porridge Set (330,000 KRW)’, ‘Hyundai Yeonggwang Premium Dried Yellow Corvina Porridge Set (320,000 KRW)’, and ‘Hyundai Yeonggwang Spring Dried Yellow Corvina Porridge Set (370,000 KRW)’. Especially, the quantity of the ultra-premium Korean beef gift sets priced over 1,000,000 KRW, which sold out during last Chuseok’s pre-order period, has increased by 50% compared to last Lunar New Year. Examples include the ‘Hyundai Premium Korean Beef Premium Set (1,500,000 KRW)’ and the ‘Hyundai Hwaseok Korean Beef Premium Number Nine Set (1,100,000 KRW)’.
The quantity of home stay products such as Korean beef cuts for grilling and marinated meat sets, which are easy to enjoy at home, has also increased by about 20%. Representative items include the ‘Korean Beef Special Cuts Set (350,000 KRW)’, ‘h450 European-style Chop Steak Set (100,000 KRW)’, and ‘Italian Florence-style T-bone Steak Set (190,000 KRW)’. The number of wine and champagne gift set varieties has also increased by 20% from last year, offering about 60 types. Three gift sets from Wine Works, a wine specialty store at Apgujeong Main Store and Trade Center Store, will also be introduced, and charcuterie (European-style processed meats) that pair well with wine are included.
Additionally, interest in health foods is expected to continue this Lunar New Year, so the number of health food gift sets such as red ginseng, matsutake mushrooms, and deodeok root has been increased by 20% compared to last Lunar New Year.
During the main sales period, customers who purchase gift sets worth 2 million, 4 million, 6 million, or 10 million KRW or more will receive Hyundai Department Store gift certificates worth 100,000, 200,000, 300,000, and 500,000 KRW, respectively. Also, customers who purchase 200,000 or 400,000 KRW or more using KB Kookmin, Hyundai, Woori, or NH Nonghyup cards will receive Hyundai Department Store gift certificates worth 10,000 and 20,000 KRW, respectively.
