On the 12th, Seok donated 1,200 kg of rice (60 bags of 20 kg each) to the Wolgok 2-dong Community Service Center, asking that it be delivered to neighbors in need.
At the donation ceremony, Seok said, "I hope the rice will be delivered to neighbors who are working hard but are in difficult circumstances."
Seok, a 50-year resident of Wolgok-dong, is no stranger to acts of kindness. Neighbors describe her as a warm-hearted grandmother who always takes the lead in various activities for marginalized neighbors, such as kimchi-making volunteer work and sharing side dishes. She often volunteers even beyond Wolgok-dong to other areas.
A neighbor who knows Seok well said, "Since she was young, she has never been able to pass by neighbors in need without helping," adding, "Many residents respect Seok for her long-standing and consistent sharing activities."
Seongbuk-gu recognized Seok’s efforts by awarding her a certificate of appreciation. Lee Seung-ro, the mayor of Seongbuk-gu, personally visited Seok despite his tight schedule and said, "Our marginalized neighbors are going through even tougher times due to COVID-19 and the cold wave, but thanks to people like Seok Bok-hee who continuously practice sharing, I believe they can find strength. The administration will also work hard to ensure that such care and consideration, which are the beginning of a tight welfare network, are delivered more effectively to marginalized neighbors."
Seok Bok-hee, who received the certificate of appreciation, tearfully said, "I have been doing this work regardless of recognition, but receiving this certificate makes me indescribably happy and makes me determined to continue living by sharing diligently."
