Gwangju Dong-gu Designates 72 Model Cleanliness Businesses
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 14th that it has designated 72 outstanding companies actively practicing waste reduction and recycling separation as ‘Clean Model Businesses.’
In September last year, Dong-gu was the first in the nation to recruit ‘Waste Reduction and Recycling Separation Model Businesses.’ As a result, 160 companies applied, and after a three-month evaluation based on five indicators including compliance with waste disposal times and adherence to recycling separation, as well as on-site inspections and reviews by a resident participation evaluation group, 72 businesses were finally selected.
Dong-gu plans to issue certificates of designation and attach designation plaques to the selected clean model businesses.
Additionally, incentives such as support for exclusive recycling disposal bags, provision of government-supplied bags for street cleaning, various cleaning supplies, and promotional materials will be provided. The district will also promote these clean model businesses leading environmental protection through its website and various promotional booklets.
The clean model businesses will adhere to pledges including ▲actively practicing waste reduction ▲complying with waste disposal times ▲practicing recycling separation (emptying! rinsing! separating! disposing without mixing) ▲placing waste in front of their own stores when disposing ▲participating in the ‘I sweep in front of my store’ campaign ▲reducing the use of disposable items and zero-waste movement.
Since this project is the first of its kind nationwide, Dong-gu expects that successful implementation through public-private cooperation will lead to waste reduction and the establishment of a proper disposal culture.
