6·15 South Side Committee "March ROK-US Joint Exercises Must Be Halted"
North Korea's Korean Central TV reported on the 14th that Chairman Kim Jong Un watched the 8th Party Congress commemorative performance "Singing to the Party," held the previous day at the Pyongyang Gymnasium. North Korea conducted the Party Congress over eight days starting from the 5th, and held the commemorative performance the day after the closing.
The June 15th Joint Declaration Implementation South Korea Committee (hereinafter South Committee) urged on the 14th that the South Korean and U.S. governments must take active measures to open a new horizon for reconciliation and peace on the Korean Peninsula, calling for the suspension of the upcoming South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises scheduled for March.
At a New Year's press conference held that day, the South Committee stated, "Before the promises made between North Korea, the U.S., and South Korea just three years ago are completely nullified, we must rekindle the flame of peace and cooperation," adding, "The suspension of the March South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises will be the first step."
The South Committee said, "The Moon Jae-in administration pushed forward with the largest military buildup in history," and "The result was the demolition of the inter-Korean liaison office and North Korea's declaration to strengthen its defense capabilities."
Addressing the new U.S. administration under Joe Biden, set to take office on the 20th (local time), they said, "The spirit of the 2018 North Korea-U.S. Singapore Joint Statement must be upheld," and "The U.S. should also harmonize with North Korea by suspending the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises and sanctions, and promptly begin peace negotiations."
North Korea recently mentioned the suspension of the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises as one of the "fundamental issues" that South Korea must resolve at the 8th Party Congress.

The South Committee criticized, "At the end of the year and the beginning of this year, the government showed actions that undermine the inter-Korean joint declarations, such as insisting on proceeding with the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises and establishing a rapid response brigade with decapitation operations in mind," adding, "In this context, if only limited cooperation projects such as health cooperation are proposed, it will only increase distrust."
