Jeju Prison Inmates and Guards Undergo Second Comprehensive Testing
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 13th that it will conduct a second round of COVID-19 diagnostic tests for 853 people, including inmates and staff at Jeju Prison, starting at 9 a.m. on the 14th.
On the 4th, after confirming that one of the confirmed cases in the province was an employee of Jeju Prison, the province conducted the first diagnostic test for 633 inmates and 228 staff members, including correctional officers.
The confirmed Jeju Prison employee had not come to work since the 1st until the confirmation, so there were no contacts within the facility. However, considering the large-scale cluster infections occurring in correctional facilities such as Seoul Eastern Detention Center, a second test was planned.
In the first test, all inmates and staff at Jeju Prison tested negative.
The second test will be conducted in the same manner as the first. Currently, there are 622 inmates and 231 staff members, including correctional officers, at Jeju Prison.
Sample collection will be directly conducted by 17 medical personnel within the prison and will be requested to the Health and Environment Research Institute.
During the testing, external access will be restricted, and the entry and exit routes for those being tested will be separately designated.
Prison staff will undergo weekly PCR tests as a proactive preventive measure, separate from this testing.
