Gwangju Dong-gu Assigns 1:1 Dedicated Officials to Nursing Hospitals at Risk of Group Infections
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 12th that it is strengthening proactive quarantine management by designating dedicated public officials on a 1:1 basis for nursing hospitals and other facilities where group infections of COVID-19 are a concern.
Dong-gu is conducting proactive full-scale testing by shortening the period from the existing two weeks to one week for 18 vulnerable group infection facilities, including nine nursing hospitals, four mental care and rehabilitation facilities, and five psychiatric medical institutions within the district. Dedicated public officials are assigned on a 1:1 basis for each facility to provide focused management.
The dedicated public officials thoroughly supervise and manage basic quarantine rules for the facilities, including ▲periodic full-scale COVID-19 testing ▲mask-wearing ▲exclusion of symptomatic workers from duties ▲temperature checks for patients and workers ▲ventilation and disinfection status.
Additionally, they meticulously check daily for enhanced quarantine rules such as ▲strict management of workers' movement paths ▲separation of work by ward and floor ▲separation of shared spaces ▲prohibition of private gatherings.
In particular, Dong-gu is making every effort to proactively block potential threats by not only supporting periodic full-scale COVID-19 testing for the 18 nursing facilities in the district but also designating dedicated public officials with medical licenses (such as public health center nurses) so that the facilities themselves can classify priority COVID-19 test subjects and conduct immediate testing.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “Recently, group infections have occurred in nursing hospitals in other autonomous districts, spreading throughout the local community, resulting in numerous infection cases. We will establish a stronger quarantine system through 1:1 dedicated close management of nursing hospitals and facilities with many elderly and patients with underlying diseases.”
