[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) achieved the result of being selected for 116 public contest projects hosted by the central government, Seoul city, and private organizations throughout 2020.
The amount of external funding secured reached approximately 36.8 billion KRW (3.9 billion KRW national funds, 32.5 billion KRW city funds, 0.4 billion KRW private funds), which corresponds to about 7% of last year's budget (527.9 billion KRW).
The major projects include ▲Traditional Market Facility Modernization Project (11.1 billion KRW) ▲Urban Regeneration Activation Area Support Project (9 billion KRW) ▲Hilly Area Mobility Improvement Project (6 billion KRW) ▲Fine Dust Blocking Forest Creation (2 billion KRW) ▲Our Neighborhood Care Center Support (1.2 billion KRW) ▲Living-closely Urban Regeneration Smart Technology Support Project (1.2 billion KRW), attracting key issues of the 7th elected administration aimed at improving residents' quality of life through public contest projects.
In particular, the Hilly Area Mobility Improvement Project is a Seoul city-hosted contest project achieved through collaboration between residents and public officials to improve pedestrian accessibility in Siheung 2-dong, an area with many steep slopes.
Regarding the Traditional Market Facility Modernization Project, it is expected to solve fundamental problems such as hygiene issues and parking difficulties in Doksan-dong Usijang Market and play a pivotal role as a hub space within the urban regeneration activation zone.
Additionally, innovative administration projects such as the installation of smart rainwater inlets to reduce odor and the creation of smart IoT pedestrian paths for residents' walking safety have been promoted as contest projects, gaining attention.
Since the launch of the 7th elected administration, the district has focused on ‘securing external funding.’ Leading with the Innovation Contest Team, a collaboration TF (Task Force) was formed among private facilities and business departments to establish a strategic response system throughout all stages of contest projects, and annually publishes a ‘Contest Project Guidebook’ to help Geumcheon-gu employees and private organization staff in charge of contest projects understand and apply more easily.
Furthermore, to improve the selection rate of contest projects, expert consulting on proposal writing and presentations is provided, and the capabilities of contest project staff have been strengthened through regular annual training.
As a result, during the 2 years and 6 months of the 7th elected administration, external funding amounting to 124.7 billion KRW was secured.
