The city completed the first phase of the Jinyeong abandoned railway urban forest project about three months ahead of schedule in December last year.
To alleviate inconveniences caused by construction and enhance residents' convenience, the project period was shortened from the original two years to one year and nine months.
The urban forest passing through the old downtown of Jinyeong-eup includes a bicycle path, walking trails, an artificial waterfall, and resting areas. Together with the existing park centered around the old Jinyeong Station, it is expected to become a new tourist attraction and a citizen relaxation space in Jinyeong.
The remaining 1.24 km section will be promoted using the 'Smart Green City Creation Project' selected through a public contest last year by the city's Climate and Air Quality Division.
Starting with detailed design services in the first half of this year, the project budget will be invested annually to develop the entire abandoned railway section in Jinyeong old downtown into a nature-friendly urban forest.
