83 Students at Hangil Information Communication School Test Negative... 5 Off-Duty Workers to Be Tested Today
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] On the 6th, 9 new COVID-19 cases (Jeju #462~470) were confirmed in Jeju in one day. From 0:00 to 11:00 on the 7th, no additional confirmed cases have been reported.
Accordingly, as of 11:00 AM on the 7th, the total cumulative confirmed cases in the province stand at 470.
The 9 newly confirmed cases on the 6th were identified as ▲6 contacts of confirmed cases within the province (Jeju #463, 464, 465, 467, 469, 470) ▲1 case related to Halla Sauna (#462), and the infection routes of the remaining 2 cases (#466, 468) are being investigated through detailed epidemiological studies. Case #463 is a contact of case #459 and currently shows no particular symptoms.
Cases #464 and #470 are family members of case #441, who was confirmed positive on the 3rd. Both were under quarantine since the 3rd and were tested at the Jeju Health Center screening clinic after developing symptoms, resulting in positive diagnoses.
Case #464 showed symptoms such as coughing and fever, while case #470 exhibited nasal discharge. Cases #465, 467, and 469 were identified as contacts of case #460.
Case #462, related to Halla Sauna, is a family member of case #189, who was confirmed positive on December 18.
Case #462 initially tested negative in the first test conducted immediately after case #189’s confirmation, but tested positive in the test conducted before quarantine release on the 7th.
Accordingly, the total number of confirmed cases related to Halla Sauna in Jeju has reached 88.
The infection routes of cases #466 and #468 are currently under investigation. Case #466 shows cold symptoms, while case #468 shows no particular symptoms.
The provincial quarantine authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations to identify their detailed movements and contacts.
Following the discharge of 6 confirmed cases after 5 PM on the 6th, as of 0:00 on the 7th, there are 114 confirmed cases in isolation and 356 released from isolation (including 1 transferred) in the province.
Meanwhile, on the 6th, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province conducted mass testing on a total of 83 individuals, including detained juveniles and staff at Hangil Information and Communication School, to proactively block the inflow or spread of infectious diseases amid recent nationwide outbreaks in correctional facilities.
Initially, testing was expected for 88 individuals, but 5 were confirmed to be off-duty workers, and additional tests will be conducted at Jeju Western Health Center on the 7th.
All 83 individuals tested earlier were confirmed negative.
Additionally, an investigation into violations of private gatherings of five or more people among the confirmed cases’ movements found no related violations.
