Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education to Establish 'Green Smart Future Schools' in Aging School Facilities
Investing 1.6648 Trillion KRW Over the Next 5 Years... Top 10 Projects of the Korean New Deal
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 5th that it will invest 1.6648 trillion won over the next five years to create 'Green Smart Future Schools' by utilizing 217 buildings (486,000㎡) of school facilities over 40 years old in 23 cities and counties within the province.
The 'Green Smart Future Schools' project is included in the top 10 tasks of the Korean New Deal and is a project aimed at nurturing future talents in response to the post-COVID-19 era and the 4th industrial revolution, as well as realizing future-oriented eco-friendly smart educational environments.
According to the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, the project is promoted as a 'digital + eco-friendly convergence type' based on four basic principles: green schools aiming for low-carbon zero energy, advanced ICT-based smart classrooms enabling future-oriented teaching and learning, spatial innovation through student-centered user participation design, and school facility complexification connecting local communities.
The criteria for selecting target schools include the school's willingness to promote the project, building age and safety grade, and the school's sustainability. Local education support offices conduct a first-round quantitative evaluation based on these indicators.
Additionally, the appropriateness of reconstruction or remodeling, operation of curricula based on the high school credit system, innovation schools, and leading curriculum schools, as well as sustainable schools centered on the local community, are comprehensively reviewed through a second-round evaluation by the selection review committee to prioritize the schools.
