Four Busan High School Students Receive 'Korea Talent Award'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seok-jun) announced on the 4th that four high school students from the Busan area received awards at the ‘2020 Korea Talent Award’ ceremony held on December 30 last year through the Ministry of Education’s YouTube channel.
This Talent Award is an event hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. It is an award that discovers talents who create new value with creativity and passion, consider others, and contribute to the development of the community, encouraging them to grow as future national talents.
The award selects 100 people nationwide, including 50 high school students and 50 university students and young adults, and presents the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award along with prize money (2 million KRW for high school students, 2.5 million KRW for university students and general participants). It also supports training and social contribution activities to help them grow as creative and convergent talents.
Four students from Busan were awarded: Myung Kyung-min, Park Jae-ik, and Lee Jun-ha, third-year students at Korea Science Academy of KAIST, and Han Hyung-won, a second-year student.

View original imageStudent Myung Kyung-min demonstrated outstanding abilities in science and technology fields, having won the grand prize at the 2019 Korea Youth Physics Tournament, the silver prize at the 17th Korea Science and Technology Competition, and the gold prize at the 2017 Korea Science Creativity Competition.
Student Park Jae-ik showed excellent talent in mathematics and science, winning the grand prize at the 2019 Science Gifted (R&E) Academic Conference and the grand prize at the 18th Korea Youth Physics Tournament.
Student Lee Jun-ha represented Korea at the 2020 MIT RSI and presented research on ‘Zero-Knowledge Proof of the Minesweeper Game’ in the field of cryptography. In 2019, he also conducted international joint research with the research team of Singapore’s National Junior College, demonstrating outstanding global capabilities.

Kwon Seok-tae, Director of Future Talent Education at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “We are pleased that students from Busan have received the Korea Talent Award,” and added, “We hope the awardees will grow into future talents leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.”
