First Trial on the 26th for 'Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Data Deletion'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] The first trial for Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy officials indicted for mass deletion of internal documents related to the Wolsong Unit 1 nuclear power plant and involvement in the matter will be held on the 26th.
According to Yonhap News on the 4th, the Criminal Division 11 of Daejeon District Court (Chief Judge Kim Yong-chan) will hold a pretrial conference on the 26th for the case involving A (53) and two others charged with damage to public electronic records, violation of the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, and trespassing.
A, a director at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and others are accused of ordering or tacitly allowing the deletion of documents related to Wolsong Unit 1 around November last year, just before the Board of Audit and Inspection requested submission of materials.
B, a subordinate of these officials and another defendant, is accused of entering the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy office at the Government Sejong Complex around 11 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2019, the day before a meeting with the Board of Audit and Inspection auditor, and deleting approximately 530 documents related to Wolsong Unit 1 over about two hours.
